Intellectual Property is a key part of a Company's valuation.

There are various types of Intellectual Property including:

Patents - protecting how an innovation functions;

Designs - protecting the appearance of a product;

Trade marks - protecting the names and logos used to distinguish a Company or products;

Trade secrets - protecting confidential information; and

Copyright - protecting artistic works.

W & A Andersons can help you:

- Identify the IP that the Company owns:

Helps your Company to identify new innovations which could be protected by IP; make decisions as to how to best protect the IP, to ensure developments are protected and to consider exploiting the IP by for example licensing. The Audit can determine if there are any issues in ownership of the Company IP and provide a strategy for correcting these. We work with a variety of businesses including start-ups, SMEs and international companies from our base in the SW of England.

- Improve the value of the Company IP:

The Audit can review the current IP portfolio and new innovations and advise on how to build the Company IP, for example by seeking additional IP  within the UK and/or internationally.

- Identify potential IP issues

An IP audit can review third party IP to determine whether there are any potential IP related issues for the Company to consider.  An audit can also identify weaknesses within the IP portfolio of the Company and provide a strategy as to how to resolve these.

- Advise on ongoing IP issues

An IP Audit can review any issues during prosecution/registration of IP and provide  strategy for overcoming these.

-Costs of an IP Audit

The IP Audit scheme run by the IPO requires the UK IPO to contribute £2500 (inclusive of VAT) and for the Company to fund £500 (inclusive of VAT).
